Turkish company Kürüm Holding is investing in a new continuous casting and rolling mill for long products at its Elbasan site in Albania.

Kurum International, the Albanian subsidiary of the Turkish company Kürüm Holding, has awarded Danieli the contract for a new MIDA (Micromill Danieli) plant, which is to be installed in Elbasan, Albania. This project is said to be the first greenfield plant of its kind in Europe, following the delivery or ongoing construction of 29 MIDA plants worldwide.
At the heart of the long products lines are Danieli’s patented OctoCaster and the innovative rolling mill layout. The new plant is designed to produce over 700,000 tonnes of bar steel and wire products on coiled reels per year. Danieli’s scope of supply comprises a melting plant featuring a 75-tonne EAF equipped with an ECS system for continuous scrap feeding, a 75-tonne ladle furnace, a material handling system and a flue gas cleaning plant.
A continuous casting machine with a radius of 12 m and an octagonal mould ensures uniform continuous casting at speeds of over 7 m/min.
The rolling mill is to consist of frameless stands and a high-speed finishing stand to produce straight bars from 10 to 32 mm and coiled strips from 8 to 25 mm with customer-specific weights of up to 5 tonnes.
Commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.
