The steel producer Emsteel, based in the United Arab Emirates, is expanding its production capacity for high-quality products. A new wire rolling mill stand enables thermomechanical rolling.

Emsteel, one of the leading steel and building materials manufacturers in the Gulf region, commissioned Primetals to supply a new wire rolling mill stand for rebar rolling mill No. 05 and to modernise an existing wire rolling mill stand at rolling mill RM No. 03 in Abu Dhabi. Both projects were aimed at increasing production capacity and enabling Emsteel to tap into markets for higher-value products. The company is strengthening its international position in the areas of tyre cord, seismic reinforcing steel, prestressed concrete (PC) steel, alloyed cold-headed steel and welding wire.
The new exit will form part of Reinforcing Bar Plant No. 05. This will enable the company to expand its product portfolio to include wire rod measuring 5.5–24 millimetres and coiled reinforcing bar with diameters of 8–16 millimetres. In addition to the expansion, Primetals is modernising the existing rolling mill to optimise tolerances and reduce wear on existing rolling stands as well as the load on the rolling stands.
The new finishing section comprises an 8-stand rolling mill (eDrive Morgan No-Twist), a Morgan reducing and sizing mill, an intelligent drive roll and a Morgan coiling head, a Morgan Stelmor cooling conveyor, in-line heat treatment via Morgan water boxes, as well as a vertical pallet system and a horizontal C-hook coil transport system. Automation is also included.
The rolling mill is designed for thermomechanical rolling and fine-grained reinforcing bars to reduce operating costs. The equipment is prefabricated prior to assembly, which reduces downtime and enables faster commissioning.
The modernisation of rolling mill No. 03 includes a new Morgan Stelmor cooling conveyor. This enables Emsteel to meet the stringent requirements for high-quality prestressing steel strands.
